Assayer training is important at all levels of technical experience. Poor or inadequate (relative to responsibility) training erodes the productive flow of assays. Training is the key to a laboratory that delivers accurate, appropriate service in support of client departments (geologists, operating engineers, managers, environmentalists, and metallurgists).
Industrial assayers begin their training by learning to follow carefully defined analytical tasks under experienced supervision. Ideally, as "hands-on" experience grows, advanced skills and understanding (theory mastery) is added to task training. A fully skilled and trained advanced assayer combines experience, a feel for the "assayer art", and an understanding of "why" (theory) to maintain efficient and accurate assay flow.
